The Interview I Waited for My Whole Life

In less than two weeks from today, on Wed 29th May 2019 I have my citizenship test and interview at 2 Lonsdale Street at 9.40 am (I will need to arrive at least by 9.25 am).

The application was processed in approximately 11 months following my submission last year.

The test and interview lasts approximately two hours. First there will be an interview in which they will:

  • discuss the citizenship application
  • check original documents and
  • take photograph
  • assess your eligibility to sit the test
If the interview goes well and documents are in place, there will be a citizenship test with 20 multiple choice questions, which can be completed in 45 minutes.

To prepare for the citizenship test, read or watch the Australian Citizenship: Our Common Bond resource that is available on our website at www.homeaffairs.gov.au/prepare-for-citizenship You can also order a book and DVD that has all the material required to prepare for the test.

Following documents required:

1. Citizenship Letter of Appointment

2. Three original documents that collectively show your photograph, signature, current residential address, date of birth, birth name and gender:

These documents should suffice for this purpose:
  • Pakistan Passports of everyone
  • Pakistan National ID Card
  • Pakistan Birth Certificate
  • Driver's Licence
3. Evidence of when you first arrived in Australia and your present country of citizenship

These documents should suffice for this purpose:
  • Australian Visa
  • International Movements Certificate
  • Visa stamp of entry in old passport
4. Documents submitted with the application

These documents should suffice for this purpose:
  • Both kids Birth Certificates
  • International Movements Certificate
  • Police Clearance Certificate from Islamabad (valid till June 2019)
  • Form 1195 signed
  • Bank Statement

4. Other Documents:

These documents should suffice for this purpose:
  • National Police Clearance
  • School enrollment certificate
  • Utilities bill
  • Business registration 
  • Employment contract
  • Resume
  • Education certificates

Contrary to what I had in mind, IELTS did not become history as early as I would have liked. I still have to deal with clearing the English Language requirements because for all my linguistic brilliance, I messed up in the writing section last time - falling short of the word limit in the second part of the test, having taken up most of my time in the first task. As dusk approaches and the last day of (Bohra) Eid-ul-adha disappears into the sunset, I am finally getting set to begin my final preparation for P2 and E2 after almost a four-day stretch of preparing for my weakest paper (F2). I've been studying so hard, I am now pretty sure how I should have studied from the start. As with all things me, its come to me a little late or just in time to a millimeter, with no space to spare.
