Becoming an accountant
The Graduate Certificate of Chartered Accounting Foundations: available from Deakin University as a part-time distance course covering the core accounting knowledge areas is one of the options to qualify the ICAA requirements for entry into the program and for migration assessment purposes.
I emailed the ICAA asking if the post-graduate course would satisfy their requirements and they said it would.
Rather than studying an Australian undergraduate accounting degree program, I can add to my existing qualifications with the one-year post-graduate certificate.
While I would prefer qualifying CIMA as my niche qualification, this will take more time, resources and is only partially recognized.
The program seems good enough to get into Australia and the accounting profession.
Once you qualify the CA foundations, you need six months work experience to gain entry followed by practical work experience of at least three years to gain full membership. During this time you will complete the five modules of the Chartered Accountant Program (GradDipCA) which will take around 14 weeks each.
