CIMA, I'm on my way

I have been finally confirmed that my student registration was successful.

This took an unexpected amount of correspondence over the period of a month or more after submitting my payment and educational papers to the regional office in Karachi to receive acknowledgment from CIMA Global that my payment was received and to reflect it on my online statement.

However, despite a few confusing emails (due to the fact that most correspondence seems to be a standard automated response and in this case one-size-doesn’t-fit-all), I was awarded exemptions sooner than I expected keeping in mind the amount of correspondence it took to confirm my payment.

I have been granted exemption from the prerequisite Certificate in Business Accounting, though I was expecting an additional exemption for one of the Professional Level examinations: P4 Organizational Management and Information Systems based on my qualifications and experience in the subject.

So once I have paid up my exemption fees, I should be able to register for the May 2010 exams and start clearing the six managerial level papers, which I should realistically expect to complete by the end of next year or even by May if I take all the exams at a go, and also maybe try for that P4 exemption. (Watch out for exam changes including section weightings and assessment formats).

With the managerial level cleared and CIMA Advanced Diploma in Management Accounting in hand, I can submit my career profile for assessment that will include three years relevant practical experience.

However, I think I need to start working on my career profile submission even before completing the managerial level, so that I know which areas I’ve covered and which I haven’t, and also to ensure that signatories etc. are available.

Osama also agrees that I should start completing my career profile to have it ready for submission when the time comes, as I may not have access to the relevant line managers (who will be doing my endorsements) later on, and so that I get well acquainted with the Practical Experience Requirements, which are quite a technical matter.

Hopefully, as Osama claims, I’m marked down for upcoming seminars regarding submission of career profile.
