A closer look

Another day spent wondering, but now I have some idea of where I would go if I were to migrate under a state plan.

Thanks to various contributions to my discussion on Embrace Australia - a popular discussion forum for 'people who love Australia', complete with a panel of experts - Zaheer Khan's advice is not applicable to applications being lodged after July 1, 2010.

That's a little sad, because guys like Zaheer are charging a good amount of money to register a case with them (effectively perhaps doubling or more all the dollars you're to part with in the course of immigration). They've proved that effective self-research and management is the only way to go about this process.

It is also clear that evidence that any secondary applicants 18 years or over included in the application have at least functional English will allow me to avoid payment of the second installment of the visa application charge.

Function English is evidenced by a band score of at least four and a half (4.5) on all four components, from an IELTS test sat no more than 12 months before making the visa application or a relevant qualification, as per the details on this page.

Moving on, having gone through all the available information regarding State Migration Plans, it seems that only three states are suitable to apply for a nomination.

Out of these three, namely NSW, South Australia and ACT, only ACT has released its SMP, with 'limited' positions for management accountants, with application guidelines that will require some tight management.

However, the ACT region due to its inland location also seems the most climatically favorable for my mother, who doesn't like the idea of living on the coast due to her asthma.

The ACT region is also very well planned and offers some amazing relocation services for free through the website on successful nomination.

However, search results on Seek.com for 'management accountant' placed ACT slightly out of the Pareto criteria, since Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth accounted for 86% of search results. ACT and Adelaide accounted for another 7%, with a 4% to 3% share.

However, most of the SMP that I came across required a bank statement showing somewhere around AUD 10,000 per applicant (which means somewhere around 35-40 lakhs in rupees in total for my case).

I don't think I really have that kind of money.
