Time to apply
Well, it seems that General Skilled Migration is certainly applicable to management accountants, since they are very much listed in Schedule 3 of the General Skilled Migration Skilled Occupation Lists (SOL).
Schedule 3 applies to all new GSM applications, as per the new Skilled Occupation List (SOL) instrument which commenced on 5 December 2010.
However, GSM applications receive third priority in visa processing, after Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) and Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS). Information regarding priority processing can be found here.
The ENS and RSMS are temporary visas. Temporary visas are a step back as only permanent residency leads to citizenship.
However, I am in a position to get the minimum number of points for permanent residency under the Skilled – Independent subclass 175 visa as a management accountant.
Using a migration agent is not necessary and can be risky, particularly if they are not registered with the Office of the Migration Agents Registration Authority (Office of the MARA) in Australia.
I can start my online application from this page.
I have a saved application SEGNW44YJLR.
Aside from my personal information, I will need passport details of all my family members, including my spouse, parent, brother and children.
I also need to provide details of all countries in which myself, my spouse or dependents have lived for 12 months or more (since turning 16) during the last 10 years. The 12 month period of residence may be made up of a number of shorter periods and must account for every year.
I am not sure if it is necessary to have a language assessment for my spouse and if it makes any difference if all my dependents aged 18 or over have at least functional level English.
I also want to know what takes place once the application is completed online. Most probably the embassy will store my details and I will have to submit my documents and payment separately for processing.
Fee structure for the application is given here.
Fees may be subject to adjustment at any time. Visa Application Charges may be subject to adjustment on 1 July each year. This may increase the cost of a visa.
The 1st instalment of the Visa Application Charge is currently AUD $2,575 and must be paid at the time of application. The 2nd instalment of AUD $3,575 includes the Visa Application Charge for dependents aged 18 years or over with less than functional English and must be paid before the visa is granted.
