IMMI Grant Notification
It's four thirty a.m. and you get up to get some work done that has been pending all week. You fire up your laptop and, as usual, Microsoft taxes your nerves with its usual dose of unexpected updates that are wasting precious time. A cup of green tea, hurl of insults and thumb twiddling later, Windows finally starts up and you are able to open your Chrome browser for a quick routine glance through your email.
And there sitting in the Immigration folder is an unexpected piece of email. 'Rather quick, what's next?' you think as you enter the folder. As you see the subject line 'IMMI Grant Notification' your hands are almost trembling as you open up the email. Preconceived myths of bio-metrics and interviews are shattered as you read thorough the pdf, dumbfounded:
You can access your visa information at any time using Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO), a free web-based service. To log into VEVO you will need your passport information and your visa grant number or transaction reference number (if lodged online). More information is available here.
And there it is. Simple, straightforward and efficient. Paperless. Wonderful.
I wanted to hug someone, and the entire family was up at half past five in the morning because everyone could sense something big had happened, even though I had said nothing.
My next post will discuss more about what the permanent visa actually entails (as soon as I have recovered from the shock).

I wish to advise that a decision has been made on this application and visas have been granted on 20 November 2013 to the applicant(s) listed in the attached Visa Grant NoticeAustralia’s electronic visa system does not require you to have a visa label placed in your passport. Foreign governments have been informed about Australia’s label-free policy and airline staff will electronically confirm you have a valid visa before you board the plane to travel to Australia.
