Not Currently Employed - Rejoice

Are you between jobs and have some downtime on your hands? You may be busier than you think.

Downtime is a great time to catch up with yourself and make the right move for your career.

Don't fall into the trap of sinking into despair - if you are the employable type you will find your next role soon enough.

As long as you can pay the bills (even if you need to take some help from the government or a friend), you should focus on finding your preferred role rather than just any job.

There are a number of opportunities out there at any time of the year (low times of the year are even better as supply of professional workforce is also scarce), but make sure you land the job that carves out a career path for yourself.

In the meantime, enjoy your free time. That's what life's all about anyway isn't it?

Enjoying your free time doesn't just mean binge watching every tv series out there from season one (though a couple good ones won't hurt).

There so much more you can do:

- getting fit physically, mentally and spiritually
- meditating on the meaning of life and your place in the world
- spending good quality time with family and friends
- defining strengths/ weaknesses and improving yourself and your attitude
- meeting new people and contacts through meetups or volunteering
- learning how control your spending, reduce wastage and be lean
- planning your life and your career
- creating a brand image for yourself professionally
- up-skilling on work-related knowledge and traits you need to learn
- setting up a side business as a project investment to fall back on when required
- writing a book or blog about a subject that you love
- discovering new industries, locations and schools of thought
- re-discovering the world of books

Keeping sane is a real challenge - it's easy to get demotivated and see the present as a failure and a bright future as a fantasy.

Have a realistic checklist you burn through each day and keep time aside for de-stressing by taking a walk and consuming books/ media that add value to your life (as opposed to wasting time). I use trello to create boards for carding my activity.

If you do it right you will emerge out of the ashes with gilded wings - fresh, supple and ready for action. You will also build up the necessary courage to take on your new role - as you will no doubt be punching above your weight to progress your career and whet your appetite.
